Dr Payel Mukherjee will present a special seminar to conclude the 2024-25 series, entitled: “Philosophy of Leaves and Ideas of a University: The conversations between Patrick Geddes and Rabindranath Tagore from 1915 to 1930”. Her talk will begin at 11.00am on June 18 and will be held at the Strathmartine Centre.
Dr Mukherjee is a faculty member of the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology in Delhi, and she will be staying at the Strathmartine Centre whilst visiting St Andrews in June. Her research is about the ideas/problems of how one sees a nation, the concept of a nation, and theoretical ideas on nationalism. Dr Mukherjee is currently working on the intellectual debates among early 20th-century Indian thinkers, focusing on the Indian polymath Rabindranath Tagore and his friendship with the Scottish sociologist, Patrick Geddes.
